The Eyecare Center of Maryland, founded in 1954 by Dr. Stanley Tempchin in Hyattsville, is a full scope optometric practice currently located in the Wheaton/Silver Spring/Rockville section of Montgomery county.
Dr. Norman Shedlo, a 1999 graduate of Nova Southeastern College of Optometry, joined the practice in 2000 as an associate and purchased the practice, following Dr. Tempchin's retirement, in August, 2004. Dr. Shedlo received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Computer Science from New York University.
Dr. Shedlo Completed medical optometry externships at the Braverman Eye Center in Hollywood, Florida and the Dan and Hoffman Eye Centers in North Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Shedlo has the highest level of Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) certification under the Maryland Board of Examiners in Optometry.
Dr. Shedlo has extensive experience fitting all types of contact lenses including soft multifocal and rigid gas permeable lenses for keratoconus and other corneal disease. In addition, Dr. Shedlo has extensive experience with LASIK and PRK laser eye surgery.
Dr. Shedlo provides a complete range of contact lens services including fitting all types of soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses, therapeutic single-use silicone hydrogel daily wear lenses, orthokeratology (non-surgical overnight "ortho-k" contacts), wave custom lens design which allows him to fit complex multifocal toric contact lenses without the use of contact lens fitting sets.
He also has experience in cataract post operative care, glaucoma evaluation and treatment, ocular surface disease management which includes dry eye therapy for allergies, blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction, Sjogren's syndrome and ocular rosacea.
